A grand evening of fashion fun, innovation and glamour was organized by the International Institute of Fashion Technology at Trinidad & Tobago on 9th and 10th of September. The event was organized by the Indian High Commission and International Association of Mother Indian Club. However, the event management was carried out by IIFT (International Institute of Fashion Technology) New Delhi, India. The show was produced by Mr. R.D. Lal and the choreography was done by Mrs. Alka Kohli. The festival, started with an introductory speech underlying the spirit & colour of India's diverse, culture and its rich traditions in a democratic land. IIFT fervor through the beautifully designed garments by its students. The famous song "Vande Mataram" captured the essence of India's unity in diversity. While depicting dhoti as a one dress worn in different states in a variety of ways the program takes of on a spiritual note depicting the significance of Pooja that Indians normally start their day with obeisance to god along with rich complement to Rudraksha the world famous neckless bead is linked with peace prosperity devotion and health. Second item was Rang De the festival of colours Holi capturing the essence of communal harmony in the Indian society. 'Teej' festival of Rajisthan was next in line where people especially ladies wear colourful Gaghra Cholis applying Mehandi on their hand praying for long life of their husbands. The ancient art of handwork was beautifully depicted through dresses like Lenghas and sarees. Valentine day is not left behind in defining the spirit of romance amongst today's youth on stage where they express their love through flowers, roses wearing Denim.
Fuschia Magic denotes the pious relation between brother and sister. EID symbolizes the end of Ramjan fasting month of muslim's when they feast and rejoys together and exchange greetings. The significance of Baisakhi festival of Punjabi community in April when the farmers celebrate the occasion for reaping a rich harvest dressed in salwar kameez and doing famous bhangra wearing graceful silk dhotis.
Next Maha Shivaratri, the spiritual festival dedicated to Lord Shiva. This night marks the night when Lord Shiva danced the 'Tandav'.
The stage show captures beautifully, a rich variety of dresses and the essence of all the above festivals in India, with accuracy and professionalism.
